Tokyo residence certificate 2026: stuck on the ward office step

Timing matters more than people think, the kuyakusho gets slammed right after the New Year and again in early April. Go on a weekday afternoon around 2 or 3, the morning rush is brutal. The counter for juminhyo is on the second floor, take a numbered ticket at the machine first.

Second this, avoid the first weekday after a three day weekend.

You file at the ward you actually live in now, so Shibuya. The Udagawacho office is the main Shibuya kuyakusho, that's the right one. Bring your juminhyo from the old ward if you have it, but they can pull it across anyway.

also grab your my number card and a residence card if you have one, they ask at the counter

Correct, and the tensuiki todoke is the bit they actually check.

Tokyo museum ticket 2026, is 2,200 yen normal?

fmd_goodModern Arts · #museum
Visiting in 2026 and got quoted 2,200 yen for a modern art museum ticket. Is that a normal price or am I getting tourist priced? Honestly not sure what museums cost there. 2200 is pretty much the going rate now tbh. The big ones like Mori Art Museum and the National Art Center have crept up, and special exhibitions often run 2000 to 2500. If its a permanent collection only, thats on teh higher side but not scammy. Locals get spoiled by cheap ward museums and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum at around 500 to 700 yen, so we grumble too. Youre not being tourist priced.

yeah and permanent collection at some smaller places like the Setagaya Art Museum still runs around 200 to 400 yen

true, the smaller ward museums are where its at. Nerima Art Museum is like 300 yen and never packed.

nerima's a solid pick, shakujii koen station is right there so its easy to tack onto a park walk. also check if theyre between exhibitions, the main hall shuts for install weeks. some of these ward spots only open the good room on weekends

Setagaya's a good shout, though the permanent collection there is basically the old Gotoh Museum setup so it's small. Ward galleries like Ota Memorial or Meguro's tiny space often free or a few hundred yen, which is why the 2,200 quote stings.

fwiw the 2,200 quote prob includes the special exhibition too, since permanent-only at most big places sits closer to 1,500.

Agree on the grumbling part. The catch is those cheap places are basically run by the wards, so the pricing depends on where you happen to be staying.
