Is there a way to reserve as a visitor, or do I need to call once I land? Also not sure if they take walk-ins on weeknights.

if the form wants a jp number just plug in your hotel's main line with the front desk's ok and reconfirm by email a day before

arrow_drop_up 17 arrow_drop_down
Image isedore local ·

worth flagging the front desk will sometimes ring u back to confirm so give them a heads up first. also keep the email thread, places here honor that more than a phone promise

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Good call on the email backup, though some places won't accept a number that isn't tied to the booking name, so ask the front desk to note your reservation.

Smoke & Stone isn't a place I know under that name, so double check the listing before you build a night around it. For grill spots here, the phone field usually just wants a Japanese number for the confirmation call, and hotels in Shinjuku or Shibuya will let you use their front desk number if you ask. Weeknight walk-ins work at plenty of yakiniku places around Kabukicho, though popular ones fill up by 19:00, so going at 17:30 is safer.

Image elise local ·

yeah the 17:30 thing is real, but many yakiniku spots do last order at 21:00 so an 8pm walk-in often just gets turned away

the front desk thing only works at chains tbh, smaller minshuku will look at u blank

Common Grounds is solid but honestly the queue on weekends kills it. I'd grab a flat white there then walk five min to Onibus in Nakameguro for a quieter pour-over. Their Ethiopia beans rotate monthly, around 700 yen.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

yeah the weekend queue is real, go before 9am on a weekday and it's fine. For something different nearby, try Fuglen in Tomigaya, the Norwegian style roast is lighter than most Tokyo spots. Their espresso tonic is worth the walk.

fuglen's espresso tonic is great but their tomigaya spot fills up too, so aim for opening at 8. if u want lighter roast without the crowd, koffee mameya in omotesando does a similar vibe and the baristas actually talk u through the beans

Agree, though their kissaten-style blend is the sleeper pick.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down
Image katrina local ·

That blend's only on the counter till noon and they pull it as a 6oz pour, so ask before you sit down.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Fair warning that Onibus spot is tiny, maybe eight seats, so solo only; the Kissaten blend at Chatei Hatou down the road is the better group option.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down
Image julia local ·

the group table at Sarutahiko, weekends only

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Chatei Hatou doesn't take groups on weekends, they cap you at four, so call ahead or you'll get turned away at the door.

arrow_drop_up 3 arrow_drop_down

Image julia local ·

weekday mornings before 8, jonathan's the better flat white anyway

arrow_drop_up 4 arrow_drop_down

Image diana local ·

Good call on the flat white, but that Nakameguro walk is more like ten min once you cross the river, and Onibus shuts at 6 so don't leave it late.
