Best coffee near Common Grounds in Tokyo 2026?

Is it worth going out of my way for, and what should I order? Also curious if there are other good coffee spots nearby I shouldn't miss.

Common Grounds is solid but honestly the queue on weekends kills it. I'd grab a flat white there then walk five min to Onibus in Nakameguro for a quieter pour-over. Their Ethiopia beans rotate monthly, around 700 yen.

yeah the weekend queue is real, go before 9am on a weekday and it's fine. For something different nearby, try Fuglen in Tomigaya, the Norwegian style roast is lighter than most Tokyo spots. Their espresso tonic is worth the walk.

Agree, though their kissaten-style blend is the sleeper pick.

arrow_drop_up 2 arrow_drop_down

Fair warning that Onibus spot is tiny, maybe eight seats, so solo only; the Kissaten blend at Chatei Hatou down the road is the better group option.

the group table at Sarutahiko, weekends only

Chatei Hatou doesn't take groups on weekends, they cap you at four, so call ahead or you'll get turned away at the door.

weekday mornings before 8, jonathan's the better flat white anyway

Good call on the flat white, but that Nakameguro walk is more like ten min once you cross the river, and Onibus shuts at 6 so don't leave it late.

Tokyo long stay visa paperwork 2026?

For a few months, look at the "Specified Visa: Designated Activities" route, usually through a language school sponsor. Rejections almost always come from thin bank statements or a mismatched purpose in your application. Skip the Shibuya charcoal place, it's a tourist trap.

yeah the bank statement thing is real, they want 6 months of history not just a fat balance on the day. Also apply at the immigration bureau in Shinagawa, not city hall, people waste weeks on that mixup.

arrow_drop_up 12 arrow_drop_down

certificate of eligibility first, that's the real delay

arrow_drop_up 0 arrow_drop_down

Image hanna local ·

bank statements also need the bank's stamp or a printed transaction history, pdf printouts alone get bounced at the counter. and keep copies of everything, they dont hand stuff back. the shibuya grill thing is overpriced btw

Image hanna local ·

the purpose mismatch one is underrated, write ur itinerary to match the sponsor

Match the zairyu card address too, ward office checks it.

mine got bounced over a missing hanko on the guarantor form

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

Sponsor's CoE needs their 登記簿謄本 and your school contract matching exact dates, that's where most mismatches start.

Language school route only works if they actually enroll u full time, part time courses dont qualify for the visa.

arrow_drop_up 1 arrow_drop_down

guardian or spouse visa skips that whole route
