Would anyone have one available for purchase or donation? I can travel to meet anywhere in the area and am willing to offer a new Trader Joe's tote bag in exchange.

Mercari's your fastest route but search in Japanese: "Vuse Alto 本体" or just "アルト ベイプ". I've seen batteries go for 1200 to 2000 yen with same day shipping from domestic sellers, way cheaper than the import markup at Ameyoko kiosks. One thing worth knowing, the Alto uses a magnetic pod connection so a generic 510 pod won't fit it, don't let anyone sell you a "compatible" device that just charges the same way. For the withdrawal part specifically, a nicotine lozenge from a Matsumoto Kiyoshi counter will bridge the gap while the Mercari order ships, usually two days max.

tbh the alto battery itself isnt the hard part, its the pods. the device is just a 510-ish stick with a magnetic collar, so if withdrawal is the real issue you can grab any cheap pod system at a Don Quijote and itll scratch the same itch. if they specifically need the Alto form factor, try the smoke shops around Kabukicho or the little import stands in Ameyoko, they sometimes have old stock in a drawer. i wouldnt count on a trade though, TJ tote is nice but this isnt really a barter city for that kind of thing.

Honestly if it's withdrawal urgency you're dealing with, nicorette gum or the patch from any drugstore (Matsumoto Kiyoshi, Welcia) will hold them over way faster than chasing a specific device. Alto batteries are niche here since the whole ecosystem is basically dead in Japan. If you really want to keep vaping, the IQOS or a cheap pod like a RELX from a Donki is prob the realistic move. The tote bag thing is sweet but won't move the needle.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
