It's right in the heart of Kabukicho, which, let's be honest, sounds kinda intense. I've heard stories... vibrant nightlife, to put it mildly. My question is: how noisy is it at night, realistically? I'm a pretty light sleeper, and while I don't mind a bit of city buzz, a full-on rave outside my window until dawn would be... less than ideal. Any tips for a peaceful(ish) stay?

the front desk keeps free earplugs behind the counter, just ask. noise wise the worst stretch is thurs to sat, sunday night is dead quiet and honestly kinda nice. if u can swing it request a room ending in a higher number, those face the back toward the shrine side and its way better. also the conbini below gets a delivery truck around 4am, that beeping is the real sleeper killer not the bars.

toyoko inn kabukicho is actually on the quieter edge, sakura dori side, not right on the central gauntlet. the real noise is drunk groups & the touts (scouts) calling out till maybe 2-3am, plus garbage trucks early. ask for a room on a high floor facing away from the street, they'll usually accommodate if u email ahead. also kabukicho got way calmer post 2020, the cops cracked down hard on the shady stuff so its more tourists now than yakuza drama. bring earplugs anyway, the walls are thin as hell at toyoko inns

honestly the noise isn't the bars, its the damn kabukicho godzilla head roar thing that goes off hourly till like 8pm. after that its just drunk tourists singing. ask for a room on the 10th floor or above, sound really does drop off up there. also the hotel breakfast starts at 6:30 and the lobby gets loud around then so dont plan on sleeping in either

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
