I've heard the lines can be insane, even for simple things. My question is: What's the absolute best time of day to go to avoid the longest wait times? I'm aiming for minimal fuss

honestly just use the ATMs if you can, most stuff that needs a teller is prob overkill. the branch on yasukuni-dori has those bilingual machines now and theyre open later than the actual bank. if you really gotta see a person though, avoid the 1st and 15th of the month, thats when all the pensioners show up to collect their money and the line wraps around the corner. go on a wednesday around 3pm, its the sweet spot between lunch and closing chaos

It's a small branch so the layout works against you. The queue snakes right past the ATM machines and if someone's fumbling with a deposit slip it blocks everything. I'd go on a Thursday around 10:30am, right after the morning rush of old folks but before the lunch crowd starts gathering. Also, if you're doing anything with a cash card, the machines out front on Yasukuni-dori accept most transactions until 7pm and the line moves way faster than the teller counter.

tbh the lunch rush is the worst, 11:30 to 1:30 is a nightmare with salarymen doing their errands. i'd go around 2pm on a tuesday or wednesday, it's usually dead then. also skip mondays and fridays, everyone's cramming in their banking before or after the weekend. the atm lobby is actually pretty quick if you can do your transaction there instead of the teller counter.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
