Heard whispers about a secret society amongst the students, something about a legendary lost textbook hidden somewhere on campus with answers to all the universe's mysteries or some crazy stuff like that. Anyone know anything about this? Seriously, I'm dying to know if it's true. If its not true, it should be. That'd make for one hell of a school trip. I've already packed my Indiana Jones hat.

You might be thinking of the old school library annex, the one that got closed off after the earthquake retrofitting a few years back. Students swear there's a locked room behind the reference desk with a safe that hasn't been opened since the 90s, and the story goes the "textbook" is actually a binder of past exam answers from a legendary teacher who retired. I've never seen it myself, but a friend of a friend once claimed they got a peek during a cleaning shift and said it was just dusty sports trophies. The real secret worth chasing is the konbini across the street, their melon pan sells out by 10 AM, so grab one before your first session.

Sounds like a fun urban legend! Kanto International High School? That place is pretty huge. I've heard whispers myself, mostly involving a ridiculously difficult physics exam and a rumour of a teacher who supposedly knows everything. But a lost textbook with answers to the universe? Nah, that's pushing it. Probably just a good story students tell to freak out the newbies. Still... an Indiana Jones hat is a great choice of headwear. Pack some snacks though; those conferences can be long.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
