Near Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, I stumbled upon this Lawson, Lawson Three-F Kita-Shinjuku, to grab a quick bite. The sheer volume of slightly weird bento boxes was overwhelming. I mean, seriously, what IS in that one with the bright purple thing? It looked...interesting. I ended up with a safe onigiri, but I'm kicking myself for not being braver. Next time, I'm going all in on the mystery meat. My question is: anyone know what the heck's in those purple bento boxes? They looked like something you'd find in a Miyazaki film.

if it had a glossy dark cube its konnyaku, the purple tint is usually just from shiso or ume mixed into rice. that lawson by the garden gets slammed around lunch so bento sell out fast, go before noon if u want the weird ones. honestly tho the egg sando there is the real sleeper pick, way better than the mystery box gamble.

the bright purple one at lawson is almost always murasaki imo, purple sweet potato, either mashed into the rice or as a little block in the corner. the color comes from anthocyanin so it looks radioactive but tastes mild & sweet. if u want to actually gamble on something weird at that location try the natto maki around 10am when theyre freshest, or just grab a karaage-kun from the hot case, hard to go wrong there

purple stuff in konbini bento is usually shiso rice or a purple sweet potato mash, sometimes it's the ume. if it was glossy & cubed it might be konnyaku simmered in soy, that one throws people bc the texture is weirdly firm. my go to at that lawson is the salmon onigiri & a cold barley tea, boring but reliable at 2am. if u wanna experiment just ask the staff whats in it, theyre used to it

Best aquarium in Tokyo 2026: Ocean Center worth it?

Any recs for a clinic near Shinagawa that takes national health insurance, and what a walk-in visit usually runs? Also, is the aquarium actually worth the ticket price in 2026 or should we just do Sunshine Aquarium instead?
