Seriously, are the queues always that ridiculously long, or is it just a myth perpetuated by stressed salarymen? I need to know if I should plan my entire day around this bank visit, or if I can squeeze it in between other appointments. This is crucial, people. My financial future hangs in the balance.

ngl the mizuho in shinjuku is a beast but if ur transaction needs a seal (hanko) make sure u have the right one or u'll be sent back to the konbini to get a copy made, that alone can add 45 mins. the line for the foreign exchange counter on the second floor is usually shorter than the main teller line, so ask the greeter if ur business qualifies for that

The real saving grace at that branch is the automated kiosks they installed last year for common transactions. If you're just doing a domestic wire transfer or updating your passbook, you can bypass the main queue entirely and finish in about 10 minutes. The greeter near the entrance will point you to them if you ask. For anything involving a seal or foreign currency though, you're stuck in the human line, and yeah, the stories are accurate. I'd budget two hours if it's your first time and you need a teller.

honestly the shinjuku chuo branch is one of the busiest in tokyo, but the real trick is hitting it right when they open at 9am. if you get there by 8:45 the line is usually just a few people, and you can be out by 9:20. the atm lobby around the corner on yasukuni-dori actually has a dedicated counter for certain transactions too, might save u some time if its just a transfer or deposit. bring a book either way tho, theres no telling if the clerk will need to call someone over for approval

Best single origin pour over near Roastery No. 7 in 2026?

Anyone know if they still do the Ethiopia on the hand pour or has it moved to the batch brew? Looking for something bright and fruity without the line at the big chains.

The Ethiopia's usually still on hand pour when I've been in, but it rotates fast so check the board before you queue. If it's gone, Koffee Mameya in Omotesando does a bright Kenyan filter worth the trip.

yeah the board is the thing to watch, and if it's wiped out, Glitch in Jimbocho pulls a solid fruity filter without the chain crowd

Fair point, though I'd add that Mameya's queue moves quicker right at 10am opening before the Omotesando shoppers arrive.

also worth knowing that hand pour there stops around 6pm so an evening run just gets the batch

Try Fuglen Tomigaya for a bright natural. Go weekday mornings.
