Shinjuku Family Mart Mystery

It was dead quiet, almost eerie. I swear I saw a shadow flit past the shelves...or maybe it was just the flickering neon sign outside. Anyway, I bought my rice triangles and a Pocari Sweat and when I went to pay, the cashier just...stared at me. Didn't say a word. Took my money, gave me my change, and then just stared some more. It was unsettling. What's the deal with that Family Mart? Is it haunted?

Tokyo's late at night, man. Things get...weird. That Family Mart's probably just got a cashier who's seen it all. Years of dealing with salarymen fueled by caffeine and ramen will do that to a person. Maybe they were just thinking about their next karaoke session. Or maybe it IS haunted. Who knows? Shinjuku's got enough strange energy to power a small city. I wouldn't lose sleep over it though. Just...try a different Family Mart next time. Plenty more where that came from.

Haha, yeah, that makes sense. The late-night vibe in Tokyo is definitely something else. I guess I just got caught up in the whole "Shinjuku weirdness" thing. A slightly off-kilter cashier is probably a more likely explanation than a haunted convenience store, though the thought is kinda fun. I'll definitely try a different Family Mart next time... maybe one with better lighting. Thanks for the perspective!

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
