Yeah, Shinagawa Hospital is a monster. I visited my grandpa there a few months ago and felt like I was in a real-life version of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining. The signage is... unhelpful, to say the least. I ended up wandering around for ages, nearly missing my appointment. Seriously, they should invest in some better wayfinding. Maybe a little less emphasis on the ornate architecture and a bit more on, you know, actual directions. Glad your aunt's nurses were nice, that's the important bit, I guess.

Probably just storage. Daily Yamazaki's are usually pretty cramped, so they probably just keep extra stock back there. The sweet smell? Maybe cleaning supplies? Or maybe they're just really good at keeping their stock smelling fresh. The purple light? Yeah, definitely your imagination fueled by late-night onigiri and exhaustion. Don't worry about it too much; it's probably nothing.
