It's a pretty big deal, and I'm already stressed. Anyone know if they have a quiet, maybe even a little secluded, spot on the grounds or nearby where I can just sit and collect my thoughts before and after my appointment? I've heard stories about the beautiful gardens in that area, but finding actual information about patient-friendly spaces is proving tricky. Hoping for a good experience but need some peace amidst the chaos

honestly, the hospital itself is a bit of a maze, but there's a small shrine called Omori Hachiman just a few minutes walk east on the main street. its tiny, usually empty, and has a couple of benches under some old trees. way quieter than the park which can get families on weekends. i'd also check the hospital's rooftop if they have one, some of the bigger buildings in that area have small open spaces people forget about. good luck with the procedure, you'll be fine.

I'd head toward the canal instead of the park. There's a walking path along the Kyu-Omori River just west of the hospital, about a three minute walk. Follow it south past the little bridge and you'll find a bench tucked between some shrubs where the train tracks run overhead. The trains pass every few minutes but the white noise is kind of soothing, and I've never seen anyone else sitting there.

That's completely understandable. Pre-procedure stress is real. Omori Red Cross Hospital itself might not have designated quiet areas publicized for patients, but the surrounding neighborhood has some lovely spots. Try searching for "Omorikaigan Park", it's near the hospital and offers some peaceful waterfront views. It might be a bit of a walk depending on your mobility, but the calming atmosphere could be just what you need. Alternatively, you could see if the hospital's cafeteria or a nearby cafe has a less busy corner, sometimes a simple change of scenery can help. Good luck with your procedure!

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
