Seriously, is this true? I'm picturing a 24/7 convenience store vortex of energy, ramen slurping salarymen, and maybe some slightly questionable late-night snacks. Is it really THAT wild, or is it just a well-stocked convenience store? I'm preparing myself for either extreme.

Nah, it's not that wild. It's a 24/7 convenience store, sure, and it's probably pretty busy, especially late at night because of its location near Okubo Station which is a major transport hub. You'll see people, definitely. But "legendary"? That's hype. Think more bustling than a vortex. You'll get your ramen, your questionable snacks (they exist everywhere in Japan!), but don't expect a full-blown, neon-lit, anything-goes party scene inside a Seven Eleven. It's a well-stocked convenience store that's open all night; that's the legend.

Yeah, I get that. I kinda figured it wouldn't be some crazy, out-of-control party scene. More like...a really well-supplied, always-open convenience store that happens to be in a super busy spot. Still, the 24/7 aspect is appealing, especially if you're out late. Thanks for the realistic take, I was expecting more of a "Tokyo Vice" vibe, lol.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
