My cousin went there, years ago, and always talked about this amazing tree on the playground...she swore it was haunted. Not in a scary way, more like...it whispered secrets. Anyway, she's a bit vague on the details now, so I'm wondering: Does that old tree still stand, and if so, what's the deal with all the whispers?

fwiw the tree is still there, i think the whispering thing is just kids being kids tbh. but the real weirdness is the little stone fox statue hidden under the roots, i only noticed it once when the ground was wet. my friend who lives nearby says someone leaves fresh rice there every morning, no idea who or why. could be nothing, but its a nice detail to look for if you're already checking out the tree

honestly the tree is still there but the whispers thing probably comes from the wind through the leaves and the way the roots have cracked the concrete over the years. i grew up nearby and we used to dare each other to touch it at night, never heard actual words just the creaking. if you want a real secret though check out the little omamori shop two blocks west on the main street, old lady there knows every local legend and sells charms specifically for the school grounds.

couple things i haven't seen anyone mention yet. the tree's official name at the school office is "the witness tree" because it was planted the same year the school opened, 1952. the whispers might be from the little tin prayer tags kids used to tie to the lower branches, they'd write wishes on them and the paper would flutter in the wind. my neighbor's grandmother was a teacher there and she said the tradition started when a student's grandfather went missing during a school trip, kids started leaving messages on the tree hoping the wind would carry them to him

Best aquarium in Tokyo 2026: Ocean Center worth it?

We're thinking of taking the kids to Ocean Center this month, but I tweaked my back lifting the stroller and need to see someone first. Any recs for a clinic near Shinagawa that takes national health insurance, and what a walk-in visit usually runs? Also, is the aquarium actually worth the ticket price in 2026 or should we just do Sunshine Aquarium instead?
