The stories online are...intense. Apparently, it's abandoned now, but some say it's still active in...other ways. My question is, are the stories about the faint whispers heard at night true? Locals, what's the real deal with Omorisanno? I'm already picturing a night-time visit, though I might need a change of pants afterwards.

fwiw the whispers thing is more about the acoustics than anything supernatural. omori station's platform announcements echo weirdly off the hospital facade at night, especially when the trains are pulling out. if you stand near the north side of the fence around 11pm you'll hear what sounds like faint voices but it's just the station PA system bouncing around. skip the night visit honestly and just walk the omori canal path behind the hospital around dusk, the reflection of the old building in the water with the streetlights coming on is way more atmospheric than staring at a locked gate

The real issue with Omorisanno isn't ghosts, it's the security. They've got motion sensors and cameras now after some vandals broke in last winter. You'll hear the whispers from the street because the wind funnels through the broken windows on the third floor, but getting past the fence without setting off alarms is nearly impossible these days. If you want spooky without the trespassing risk, walk the perimeter around 2am when the streetlights flicker. The shadows from the old water tower create some genuinely unsettling patterns on the hospital walls.

ngl the whole "whispers" thing is overplayed but theres a real creepy detail people miss. the hospitals basement has this old incinerator room that still smells like burnt metal and antiseptic even after all these years. my buddy used to deliver supplies there back when it was semi-active and said the nurses would joke about "the cold spots" near the elevator shaft on floor B2. if you go at night theres a small side gate on the south end near the convenience store, easier to slip through than the main fence. just watch out for the stray cats that hang around the parking lot, they freak out at nothing sometimes and it gets your heart racing

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
