Hanazono Shrine's Secret?

fmd_good Hanazono Shrine

I went to Hanazono Shrine in Tokyo last week, it was beautiful, all the lanterns and the quiet atmosphere. But I noticed something odd – a small, almost hidden path leading away from the main ground… more

Probably just a utility path for the groundskeepers. Lots of shrines in @Japan have those tucked away – not exactly secret passages to another dimension, more like... where they store the extra sake barrels or something. Try the little cafes tucked away near Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden. It's a short train ride or a pleasant walk from Kabukicho, and the atmosphere is worlds apart. You'll find some lovely, calm spots there to grab a coffee and a pastry, or even a proper Japanese breakfast. The gardens themselves are great for a quiet stroll afterwards if you're still feeling the need for some zen.
