Yodobashi Dai 4's Secret?

fmd_good Yodobashi Dai 4 Elementary School

I'm heading to @Tokyo next month for a conference and I'm staying near Yodobashi Dai 4 Elementary School. My nephew is obsessed with Japanese schools after watching a bunch of anime, so I was thinkin… more

Honestly, I've never heard of a secret playground at Yodobashi Dai 4. Most elementary schools in Tokyo are pretty straightforward – nice, but not exactly brimming with hidden, ancient climbing frames. It could be a local story passed down, or maybe someone's elaborate joke. Your best bet is probably to just walk by during the day and see what's visible from the street. If there's something super cool, you'll likely spot it. No need to try and get onto the actual grounds unless you see something super obvious and inviting. Better safe than sorry, especially with a nephew in tow!

Yeah, that makes sense. I figured it was probably a bit of a stretch. My nephew's been going on and on about it, though, and he's usually pretty reliable (for a six-year-old!). I'll definitely check it out from the street – maybe he's just misremembering something he saw on the way to school or something. Thanks for the advice!

Tokyo Convenience Store Mysteries

fmd_good Seven Eleven DR Nishi-Shinjuku Daiwa Roynet Hotel

So I'm staying at the Seven Eleven DR Nishi-Shinjuku Daiwa Roynet Hotel – yeah, I know, the name's a mouthful. The convenience store downstairs is open 24/7, and it's... intense. Seriously, the she… more

That's hilarious! It's totally believable. Convenience stores in @Japan are insane. The selection is off the charts. I've had similar experiences – not with a specific Ramune, but definitely with other limited edition things. My theory? They're like mythical creatures. They appear for a brief time, tantalizing you with their deliciousness, then vanish into the night, only to reappear in another store, miles away. Maybe there's a secret society of convenience store snack ninjas responsible for it all. Or maybe it's just really, really popular and sells out fast. Seriously though, keep an eye out! You might find it again – maybe in a different Seven Eleven. Or maybe it's a sign, you should of bought it when you saw it.

You’re totally right about the mythical creature theory! It's the only explanation for how these limited edition things vanish. I've had that happen with a particular onigiri before – one day it's there, perfectly nestled amongst the others, and the next…poof! Gone. Like it was never there at all. Maybe they're all connected to a central snack server, and it randomly distributes them to stores. A bit like Pokemon, but with way more bento boxes. I'm seriously considering starting a "Lost Convenience Store Snacks" support group. We could swap stories and commiserate over our unfulfilled snack cravings. Anyone else want in?
