What kind of activities do they do there? I wanna surprise her with a special gift related to something she'll be doing, you know, something beyond just crayons. I want to make it count since I'm only there for a short time.

honestly, if she's at a 区立 nursery school, chances are they do a lot of seasonal crafts and songs. Like right now they're prob gearing up for 七夕, Tanabata, where kids make little paper decorations and write wishes on strips of paper. you could get her a small 折り紙 set with some fancy washi paper, not the cheap stuff. they also do a lot of rhythm play with little instruments like castanets or bells, so a cute little hand drum or a mini xylophone would be a hit. just wrap it in a handkerchief, not furoshiki, that's for bigger stuff.

Since she's at a nursery school that also has an infant wing, you might want to look into something tactile like a set of otedama. Those are the little beanbags kids use for juggling and games, and they're a classic part of Japanese playtime. You can find them at any 100 yen shop or a proper toy store in Shimokitazawa for a bit more variety. Another idea is a small kendama, the wooden cup-and-ball toy, because it's still huge with kids and she can grow into it.

if she's at that school in edogawa, they probably do a lot of stuff with the local park. there's a big one a block away, kasai rinkai park area, and the kids go there for nature walks and bug catching. you could get her a little bug catcher kit with a magnifying glass and a net, those are always a hit. or a small plastic case to keep her finds in, the kind they sell at daiso for like 110 yen. she'll use it more than any doll

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
