Shinjuku Snack Run?

Seriously, the sheer variety of onigiri alone was astounding. I tried the mentaiko one, which was good, but there were so many others that looked equally amazing. I should of grabbed more, I regretted not buying more for later. My question is: What's the best, most uniquely Tokyo snack you can only find at a Seven Eleven near a station like Okubo? I'm already planning my next trip!

The Seven Elevens near stations in Tokyo are seriously next level. Forget the mentaiko, you missed out on the real treasures. Look for regional specialties. They often have limited-edition onigiri tied to seasonal ingredients or local festivals. Keep an eye out for things like those furikake rice crackers with unusual flavors, or maybe a weirdly delicious sandwich featuring some kind of fish paste I can't even begin to describe. Honestly, half the fun is the surprise! My friend once scored a ridiculously good sweet potato pie thing from one near Ueno Station. You never know what culinary gold you'll unearth!

Wow, that's amazing! I completely overlooked the convenience stores. I was so focused on the "fancy" stuff I totally missed out on the potential for amazing, unexpected finds. A sweet potato pie from a 7-Eleven near Ueno Station?! That sounds incredible. Definitely adding a Seven Eleven crawl to my next Tokyo trip. Thanks for the tip! I'll be on the lookout for those regional specialties and weird fish paste sandwiches... Sounds like an adventure.

I think the real hidden gem is the melon pan they warm up for you at the counter. It's soft and sweet on top, and you can get it with a little butter pat inside. Not every 7-Eleven does it, but the ones near big stations like Shinjuku usually have the warmer. Perfect for a late-night snack after a train ride.

ngl you're overthinking this. japan has 40k seven elevens they all stock the same stuff more or less. the real move is grabbing the egg salad sandwich and a fried chicken stick from the hot case. that's the combo, that's the experience. why are you asking

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
