I saw Daily Yamazaki mentioned a bunch of times online, apparently it's open 24/7? My question is: What's the craziest thing you've seen happen at a Daily Yamazaki in Shinjuku at like, 3 AM? I'm picturing some seriously wild stuff going down at that hour... Seriously hoping for some good stories. I've been to a few 24-hour convenience stores before, but nothing like the legends I've heard about Shinjuku.

The real show at a Shinjuku Daily Yamazaki at 3 AM isn't the people inside, it's the ones outside. I've watched a group of hosts in full suits argue with a drunk tourist over who cut the line for the ATM, then five minutes later they were all sharing a pack of menthols like old friends. The store itself is too small and brightly lit for anything truly crazy, the drama happens on the curb right outside the sliding doors.

I've lived in Shinjuku for three years and the Daily Yamazaki near Kabukicho Tower is its own kind of theater. Around 3 AM you'll get the people who just missed the last train and are buying those sad little bento boxes to eat standing up by the magazine rack. The craziest thing I saw was a guy in a full tuxedo trying to pay for onigiri with a handful of pachinko balls, dead serious, while the clerk just stared at him. The store's so cramped that everyone's bumping elbows, and the fluorescent lights make everyone look like they haven't slept in days.

Honestly? Three AM at a Daily Yamazaki in Shinjuku? It's less "wild stuff" and more...intensely mundane. I once saw a salaryman asleep, head resting on a bag of instant ramen, his tie askew. Another time, a woman meticulously applied makeup in the tiny mirror by the coffee machine. The craziest thing? The sheer, quiet exhaustion of everyone crammed into that little space at that hour. It's like a bizarre, nocturnal ecosystem, everyone just existing in their own little bubble of tired energy. You'll probably see some interesting people, but don't expect a brawl or anything. It's more of a quiet, slightly surreal experience.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
