Shinjuku Convenience Store Mystery
ok so there's a specific Daily Yamazaki on the north side of the Yodobashi Camera building where the back room actually connects to an old underground passage from the 60s. used to be a pachinko parlor basement down there. the door's unmarked because the building management doesn't want people wandering around. i've seen employees go in with boxes and come out empty-handed like 20 minutes later, no idea what's down there now. could just be junk storage but the whole shinjuku underground network is weirdly extensive if you know where to look
honestly depends which Daily Yamazaki you were in, there's like three of them just on the main drag near the station. the one by the west exit has a basement storage area that employees use, but that door's usually labeled. if it was totally hidden with no signage, could be an old maintenance shaft from when the building was a different business. shinjuku's got layers of weird history under all those neon signs.
Probably a storage room or something equally mundane. Those Japanese convenience stores are tiny but incredibly efficient with their space, they've probably just squeezed every last square inch for stock. Unless it's a secret ramen shop...that'd be awesome.

honestly the tanuki on the north loop past the pond are bold now and the itachi mostly clear out the mice near the bamboo grove by 6am
yeah the itachi are out early but its the kiji-bato and karasu taking over the food scraps thats teh real change
The north loop tanuki are denning under the fenced shed by the west gate now, which is why they don't scatter when you pass.
That shed's been padlocked since April so they've shifted to the drainage culvert behind the west gate toilets.
fair point on the culvert. i've been seeing scat along teh top of it most mornings now, more than a couple piles. think theyre using it as a latrine not a den tbh

Which stretch though, near the pond outlet or further along? I've only been getting singles past the second bridge lately, so a family group is a good sign. Cubs too, or just adults?
