Shinjuku Banking Woes?

Anyone know if they're strict about appointment times? I'm used to my local bank in @London being pretty relaxed, but Japanese banks have this... reputation, you know? I'd hate to waste a whole morning waiting around. The whole trip's already pretty tight on schedule. Plus, I'm terrible with crowds. Any advice appreciated!

The Shinjuku Chuo branch is in that big Mizuho tower right across from the Yodobashi Camera, so it's a bit of a maze to find the right floor. I've done international transfers at Mizuho before and they're pretty particular about forms, even the English ones have weird gaps you have to fill in with katakana for the recipient's address. If you're running late, the ATM lobby on the first floor has those dedicated transfer machines that can handle most standard international wires, which might save you the appointment headache entirely.

That Mizuho branch is actually one of the busiest in Shinjuku, right by the west exit bus terminal. If you show up even five minutes late, they'll likely bump you to the walk-in queue, which can easily be an hour on a weekday morning. I'd recommend arriving 15 minutes early and using the free coffee machine on the second floor while you wait, it's a small thing but it helps with the crowd anxiety. Also, make sure you bring your residence card if you're a foreigner, they're weirdly strict about photocopying it even if you've banked there for years.

Honestly, Japanese banks are generally sticklers for appointments. My experience with Mizuho (though not that branch specifically) suggests they're not going to be as chill as your @London bank. Best to book well in advance, even if it's just a quick transfer. Showing up without one could mean a significant wait, or even being turned away. Their website should have online booking; check that first thing. Good luck! And yeah, Tokyo crowds... yikes.

Order the folio blend, not the single origin.

The new beans lean brighter and more acidic, so if you liked the old darker profile, ask what's on the second grinder.
