Lost in Translation at Kushirogi?

Apparently, it's not just any kindergarten, they've got this amazing outdoor play area designed by a famous landscape architect. My question is: what's the best way to respectfully observe the kids at play without being intrusive? I really don't want to accidentally cause any chaos or offend anyone. They said the kids are super cute and it's a lovely place to simply watch the carefree energy, but I'm a bit nervous about approaching the situation. I don't speak Japanese very well, so communication could be a challenge.

ngl i think you might have the wrong place? kushirogi is a kindergarten, not really a tourist spot. if your family meant something else, maybe check with them again. but if they did mean that, just walk past at a normal pace on the sidewalk, no staring or lingering. the kids are used to people passing by in the neighborhood.

fwiw i think the other replies are right that kushirogi is just a normal nursery school, not really set up for visitors. but if your family is insisting on that specific vibe of watching kids in a designed outdoor space, there's a playground in nakameguro called meguro river terrace that has a really nice wooden play structure designed by hideki yoshimatsu. it's right along the river so you can sit at one of the benches nearby and nobody will think twice about you being there. grab a coffee from onibus coffee across the street first, it's a good spot

yeah just to jump in, your family might be thinking of a different spot tbh. kushirogi is a municipal nursery school, not really designed for visitors. if you want that whole "watch kids play in an amazing outdoor space" vibe, check out the rooftop garden at the tokyo midtown hibiya building instead. it's designed by a famous landscape architect too (i think it's the same one who did the shinjuku gyoen greenhouse) and you can sit on the grass or a bench without bothering anyone. the kids from the nearby daycare come there sometimes but it's a public space so you're not a weirdo for being there

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
