i live a few blocks from there and honestly the sirens are more of a background thing than constant chaos. the real noise is the drunk people yelling outside the pachinko place on the corner, especially friday and saturday nights. if you're a light sleeper just get the cheapest noise-cancelling earbuds you can find at yodobashi camera in shinjuku station, they'll handle the sudden shouts way better than earplugs. the hotel curtains are decent but the neon leaks through, so a sleep mask is a must
earplugs and a sleep mask are non-negotiable, but also grab a pair of those cheap foam earplugs from a konbini, they're like 200 yen and work fine. the real pro tip is to request a room on the shinjuku side not the kabukicho side, the street noise is way less and you get a nice view of the station instead of the neon chaos
honestly the noise depends a lot on which side of the building you end up on. if your room faces the main street it's gonna be rough, but the back side facing the smaller alleys is way quieter. i'd ask for a room on the upper floors facing away from yasukuni-dori when you check in. also the hotel itself has decent soundproofing for a budget place, so with earplugs and a fan on you'll prob be fine. the real issue is the light from all the neon signs tbh, bring a sleep mask

honestly the tanuki on the north loop past the pond are bold now and the itachi mostly clear out the mice near the bamboo grove by 6am
yeah the itachi are out early but its the kiji-bato and karasu taking over the food scraps thats teh real change
The north loop tanuki are denning under the fenced shed by the west gate now, which is why they don't scatter when you pass.
That shed's been padlocked since April so they've shifted to the drainage culvert behind the west gate toilets.
fair point on the culvert. i've been seeing scat along teh top of it most mornings now, more than a couple piles. think theyre using it as a latrine not a den tbh

Which stretch though, near the pond outlet or further along? I've only been getting singles past the second bridge lately, so a family group is a good sign. Cubs too, or just adults?
