Nishishinjuku's Hidden Mail

I've heard it's got some seriously cool architecture, apparently, it's a bit of a local landmark, not just a post office. My question is: what's the weirdest thing you've ever seen mailed from or received at that particular post office? I'm always fascinated by the stories objects carry, a postcard's journey, the contents of a mysterious package... I bet a place like that sees some real doozies. Hoping to soak up some local atmosphere and maybe even stumble upon a good story myself.

the live crab story is wild but honestly the most memorable thing i saw there was a guy shipping a giant bundle of keys. like hundreds of them on one ring, mustve weighed 5 kilos. he was real casual about it too, just handed it over like it was a normal letter. staff weighed it, slapped a label on it, no questions asked. still wonder where those keys were going

also if you're gonna be in the area grab lunch at the little curry shop two blocks south, it's called spice magic or something similar. the owner used to work in the building next door and knows all the post office gossip

tbh the real weirdness at that post office is less about what gets mailed and more about the people using it. i've seen salarymen in full suits carefully shipping what looked like a single bento box wrapped in newspaper, and one time a guy tried to mail a live crab from the box outside. the staff didn't even blink, just told him to go to the parcel counter around the corner. the architecture is genuinely cool though, the concrete curves are very tange-esque, worth a photo even if the mail itself is boring

not the crab or the keys but the most memorable thing i saw there was a woman trying to mail a framed photo of herself to what looked like a love hotel address in kabukicho. she wrapped it in a furoshiki cloth and the staff made her take it off because of the shape. she was super embarrassed about it. the whole thing took like 15 minutes

if you want a good post office story just sit on the bench outside around 3pm when the older locals come in. they always have the weirdest stuff and they're happy to chat while they wait. the guy at the kombini across the street makes a decent egg sandwich too if you need a snack while you watch

宅建協会 first, it's free

Four years means most of that is futsū no sonshō, they can't charge you.

Second this, but file before the 14th or the fee resets.

Worth it, but bring photos and the 原状回復ガイドライン printout.

Free, but the あっせん itself takes two to three months.

Only after the 110番 consult, they triage.

True, though あっせん costs nothing either way.
