Ended up at Tokyo Shinagawa Hospital, the ER was packed! Seriously, wall-to-wall people. The staff were amazing though, incredibly efficient and kind despite the chaos. Got patched up pretty quickly, all things considered. But my question is... how long is the average wait time in the ER on a typical busy weekday evening? I'm thinking of doing another trip soon and hoping to avoid a repeat performance.

Sadly there's no real average for that kind of thing, it changes every single night. If you want to skip the ER next time, I'd just hit up a tiny clinic near Shinagawa Station first, they'll treat a sprain way faster and it's way cheaper.

Oof, that sounds rough! Shinagawa Station area... yeah, it's a maze even when you're not injured and jet-lagged. Unfortunately, there's no magic number for ER wait times in Tokyo. It's gonna fluctuate wildly depending on the day, time, and what kind of emergencies walk in. A weekday evening? Expect it to be busy. Really busy. Your experience sounds pretty typical for a packed ER anywhere, tbh. Maybe try to get travel insurance that includes decent medical coverage, that might help ease some stress if you end up needing another visit.

Yeah, ER waits here are pretty unpredictable honestly. If you're worried about another twisted ankle, maybe scope out a few local orthopedics near Shinagawa beforehand, they're usually way faster for non-life-threatening stuff and you can just walk in.

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
