I've heard whispers, hushed tones in izakayas, about a hidden, almost mythical, employee there. They say this person, a teller perhaps, can predict the stock market based on the way people arrange their yen. Crazy, I know. But I've seen enough weird stuff in @Tokyo to believe anything. My question is: Has anyone else encountered this... prophet... at the Shinjuku branch? I need to know if I should be preparing a special offering of melon pan or something.

lol I used to work at a bank near there and heard the same rumor. turns out it's just an old dude who's really good at reading people's anxiety about money, not the stock market. he'll tell u to buy more life insurance or something boring like that. save your melon pan for the combini run after, the vending machines in that branch are overpriced

I've actually been to that Shinjuku branch a few times for my own boring banking stuff. The rumor you heard is definitely floating around the neighborhood, but I've never seen this person in action myself. There's a tiny coffee stand about a block south on Yasukuni-dori that's way better than the convenience store coffee the other person mentioned, so grab a cup there before you go in. If the prophet shows up, you'll be caffeinated and ready. If not, you've still had good coffee.

ngl I've been to that branch a few times and never noticed anyone special. but the security guard at the entrance does give off this weird vibe, like he knows stuff he shouldnt. maybe bring him some convenience store coffee instead of melon pan

yeah wednesday is quieter than tuesday tbh, and the panda line forms before 9 so queue by 9:15 at the ikebukuro gate
