Shinjuku at night... yeah, it's got a vibe. Not necessarily dangerous, but definitely... different. Think less "jumped by salarymen" and more "slightly unsettling encounters with people who've had a lot of karaoke". I wouldn't go running alone super late, especially if you're not familiar with the area. Stick to well-lit streets, and maybe carry some pepper spray. Better safe than sorry, you know?

Lol, your friend's got a good imagination! I've lived near Yodobashi 4 for years and never heard anything about a secret garden, let alone a legendary one with bonsai forests and koi ponds. Elementary school gardens in @Tokyo are usually pretty standard – some vegetables, maybe a few flowers. Nothing too wild. Unless... your friend was pulling your leg? Maybe she was the one with the secret, hidden imagination? 😉
