I've heard legends about Seven Eleven Nishishinjuku 5-chome Kita, apparently it's got this insane selection, like, way beyond your average 7-11. My question is: what's the weirdest thing you've ever bought there? I'm talking truly bizarre, the kind of thing that makes you do a double-take. I'm hoping for some serious inspiration for my Tokyo adventures. I'm already picturing myself with a bag full of wonderfully unexpected snacks. This trip better not disappoint!

That specific Nishishinjuku location is legendary for a reason. The weirdest thing I grabbed there was a little pouch of "yakisoba sandwich" filling that you're supposed to squeeze onto bread. It was basically sweet, tangy noodle paste in a tube, and I still don't know if it was meant for a proper meal or just a prank on your taste buds. If you want something less chaotic but still unique, their seasonal section near the register often has regional flavor KitKats you won't find in standard shops, like sweet potato or wasabi. Just be warned, the place is packed during lunch rush so go late at night for the full weirdo treasure hunt.

Dude, that 7-Eleven is a total rabbit hole. I once bought a bag of... wait for it... instant ramen flavored potato chips. They were... an experience. Not bad, exactly, just... intensely confusing. The savory-umami-potato thing? It's a trip. You'll find stuff there you won't see anywhere else, I guarantee it. Prepare for sensory overload. Happy hunting!

The Nishishinjuku location is a whole different beast, almost like a department store crammed into a 7-Eleven. I once bought a can of "collagen coffee" there that claimed to be good for your skin, and it tasted exactly like you'd expect, bitter coffee with a weirdly thick texture. If you want something truly baffling, look for the shelf with the "fruit" flavored canned breads, they have a melon pan in a can that's basically sweet cake mush. Go around 11pm when the restock happens, that's when the real oddities hit the shelves.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
