Apparently, it's this legendary convenience store, open super late, and stocked with crazy stuff you won't find anywhere else. My flight gets in late, and I'm starving. Question is: what's the weirdest thing they've ever had in stock at 3 am? I'm talking truly bizarre stuff, not just a limited edition Kit-Kat. I wanna be prepared for the culinary adventure...or potential horror.

ngl that lawson gets hyped way more than it deserves. it's fine but the 3am magic people talk about is mostly just jet lag making everything feel surreal. if ur actually landing late and starving, the move is the onigiri at the back near the register, they restock around 2 and the tuna mayo ones are still cold and fresh, not the sad ones that sat out all day. also the fried chicken from the hot case, karaage, is way better than the weird stuff people chase. grab that and a strong zero and you're set.

If you're landing late and dead set on the weird stuff, forget the food shelves and check the seasonal corner near the window. That Lawson rotates a "regional fair" every couple weeks, and I once found Hokkaido squid ink nikuman and a canned oden from Kyushu sitting there at 3am, both marked half off. Whether that beats a normal tuna onigiri is debatable, but it's the closest you'll get to actual culinary roulette. Just check the expiry sticker twice, the clearance stuff is clearance for a reason.

one thing nobody mentioned: the atm. that lawson has a 7-Bank ATM that takes foreign cards and at 3am there's zero line, so if u land with no yen that's your first stop before u even look at food. also the manga corner by the window, salarymen pass out there sometimes and staff just let em sleep til like 5. weirdest edible thing i ever saw was a pack of dried firefly squid, hotaru ika, just sitting with the beer snacks. chewy, briny, kinda intense. grab it with a highball if u wanna feel like a local weirdo instead of a tourist weirdo.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
