I've been to a million Lawsons, but this one's supposed to have a killer onigiri selection. My question is, does anyone know if they have that limited-edition uni onigiri they sometimes stock? I heard rumors... Last time I tried to find it at a different Lawson, I was mega disappointed. I really want to try that luxurious seaweed rice treat. This time I'm bringing my A-game.

that specific lawson on okubo-dori is hit or miss tbh, i live a few blocks away and they get the weirdest stock patterns. the uni one shows up there maybe every other tuesday afternoon from what i've seen, but the staff rotates it out fast. if you strike out there, walk five minutes east to the lawson on the corner of meiji-dori and yasukuni-dori, they're bigger and usually have the seasonal stuff sitting longer

ngl the uni onigiri is a myth at most lawsons, i've only ever seen it at the one in shinjuku station's basement near the odakyu line ticket gates. they had a whole shelf of them last thursday around 4pm if that helps. the okubo-dori spot is prob cleaned out by lunch crowds from the nearby offices

Fingers crossed for you! That uni onigiri is the stuff of legend. Worth the Lawson pilgrimage, for sure. I've had better luck finding it in the ones closer to the train stations, but hey, you never know. Let us know if your quest is successful!

While the local bacon works well in many recipes, I specifically want the crispy type. Where might I find this style of bacon?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
