Shinjuku 7-Eleven Enigma

Like, ridiculously huge. I'm picturing a multi-level behemoth stocked with everything from fresh sushi to limited-edition KitKats. My question is: does the sheer scale of this convenience store actually affect the prices? Is it more expensive than a regular 7-Eleven because it's, you know, epic? Or is it a land of plentiful, reasonably priced goods? I need to know before I go bankrupt buying out the whole place.

the prices are the same as any other 7-eleven tbh, they're all run by the same company so no markup for size. but that specific one on meiji dori near the garden has a way bigger liquor section and sometimes gets the weird collab stuff first like the melon pan ice cream sandwiches. just go early, it gets packed with tourists and office workers around 6pm and the fried chicken counter turns into a warzone

It's not just the size that throws people, it's the layout. That Shinjuku Grand Plaza one has a hot food counter that wraps around the corner, so you'll see tourists standing there trying to figure out if they're in line for fried chicken or the croquettes. Prices are standard 7-Eleven, but they do carry the nicer bento boxes you don't find at the cramped stalls in Yoyogi. If you want the limited KitKats, check the register area first, the tourists grab them off the main shelf before noon.

Nah, it's not more expensive. Think of it more like a 7-Eleven flagship store, they're showing off. Bigger selection, maybe some slightly fancier stuff, but the prices are pretty standard for a 7-Eleven. You'll be fine. Go nuts. Just maybe don't actually buy out the whole place...unless...? Then send pics.

Haha, good point! Flagship store makes sense. I was picturing some crazy markup, like they'd be charging 1000 yen for a single onigiri or something. Okay, I'll behave...mostly. Will definitely report back with photographic evidence of my loot. Prepare for an onslaught of convenience store goodness!

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
