Apparently, it's got this insane selection of imported stuff, but I'm low-key terrified of getting lost in there. It's HUGE. Like, seriously labyrinthine huge. Last time I went to a big supermarket in @Tokyo, I spent an hour circling the same aisle. My question is: are there any secret shortcuts or hidden maps (or maybe just exceptionally helpful staff) at My Basket to navigate this behemoth without losing my sanity?

Worth clarifying what "My Basket" actually is before you build a whole trip around it. It's Aeon's budget chain, the stores run 100 to 150 square meters, and the Dogenzaka branch you're probably picturing sits a short walk up the hill from the station. There's no map because there's nothing to map, you'll see the whole floor from the door.

If imported groceries are the actual goal, Kaldi Coffee Farm in Mark City B1 is the reliable one, and the Seijo Ishii on Hikarie's B1 floor covers the rest. Both are small enough to browse in ten minutes, so the "labyrinth" worry kind of evaporates once you're in the right store.

I think you've got My Basket mixed up with something else. It's a discount chain run by Aeon, the stores are tiny, maybe 100 square meters, and they're built for quick stops: cheap eggs, bento, onigiri, that kind of thing. Nobody raves about them for imported goods and there are no maps because there's nothing to map. If you want the big foreign selection, Kaldi or Seijo Ishii are your spots, and even those you can walk end to end in five minutes.

If you're set on My Basket, hit the one on Dogenzaka near the intersection with Shibuya 3-chome, that's the largest in the area and the only one with a decent chilled and frozen section. Layout is basically identical across every branch: produce and bento at the entrance, drinks and dairy along the back wall, pantry and instant stuff in the middle, so once you clock that pattern you can walk into any of them blind. For actual imported groceries though, Kaldi on the Mark City B1 floor is where you want to be, they carry the coffee beans, cheese, and foreign snacks people keep telling you My Basket has.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
