She says the food is...an experience. Apparently, it's legendary among the patients, but not in a good way. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself, but all I can find online are sterile photos of the building. Anyone who's been a patient there recently, what's the lowdown on the hospital food? Is it truly as bad as the rumors suggest? Seriously considering smuggling in some ramen...

ngl the omori red cross food is more about survival than enjoyment. the breakfast sets are the most tolerable, miso soup and rice, but lunch/dinner gets weird with those beige mystery proteins. if you're smuggling stuff the 7-eleven on the corner of omori kaido has better selection than family mart imo, they stock those instant udon cups that actually taste like something. also check if she can get a visitor meal pass, sometimes they let you eat in the cafeteria where the options are slightly less depressing than room service

oh man, the omori red cross food is a rite of passage tbh. i was there last year for a few days and the curry rice was fine but the "fish" dishes were just sad, like grey and gelatinous. if you're smuggling in ramen, hit up the family mart across from the omori station exit, they've got decent cup noodles and those little onigiri packs that won't get squished in your bag. your aunt will appreciate the backup stash more than you know

Yeah, the food at Omori Red Cross... let's just say it's an adventure. My uncle was there a few months back and described it as "nutritionally adequate, aesthetically questionable." Think institutional cafeteria food, but somehow... worse. The textures were apparently a highlight (or lowlight, depending on your perspective). Ramen smuggling is a very good idea. Seriously, pack extra. You'll be doing your aunt, and yourself, a huge favor. Maybe some onigiri too, for variety.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
