It's almost midnight, and I stumbled upon this Lawson Three-F Okubo-dori, a total lifesaver. They had ALL the weird and wonderful snacks I'd heard about, like those melon pan ice cream sandwiches! But seriously, did anyone else find the selection at this particular Lawson dramatically different than other Lawsons? Like, way more onigiri varieties? I'm curious if this is a thing at that location only, or if other "Three-F" Lawsons stock similar unique goods?

the three-f ones are definitely a step up, they stock more premium stuff and regional items. that specific lawson on okubo-dori is near a bunch of hostels and love hotels so they load up on onigiri and ready-to-eat stuff cause people are coming in at all hours. the one near shinjuku station's east exit is another good three-f if you wanna compare, it has a bigger hot food section but less onigiri variety

fwiw that specific lawson is also the closest konbini to the korean town entrance on okubo-dori, so they stock a bunch of stuff you don't see everywhere else. i've seen kimchi onigiri and those spicy rice ball things there that i've never found at a regular lawson even in other three-f locations. the store manager definitely tailors it to the mix of tourists, students, and late night workers in that pocket

honestly i think the three-f thing is overhyped for most stuff but that specific lawson on okubo-dori is legit an outlier. it's not just a three-f thing, it's that location specifically. there's a big dormitory for international students a block away and a 24h internet cafe nearby so they stock way more onigiri and instant meals than a typical convenience store would. i've been to other three-f lawsons in shibuya and they don't have the same insane onigiri wall, maybe 2/3rds of it at best. the store manager there prob just knows their crowd.

Whitebox in Tokyo 2026: Is It Still Worth It?

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
