Heard the doctors are top-notch, but I'm a bit worried about the food. Anyone been a patient there recently? What's the hospital food like? Seriously, I need to know if I should pack snacks...or maybe bribe a nurse with some decent ramen. I'm already stressed enough about the whole thing.

ngl the food at omori red cross is pretty standard hospital stuff - think plain rice, some kind of simmered fish or chicken, and a tiny bowl of soup. it's all low salt and low fat so it tastes a bit sad but it's not inedible. the real pro move is having a friend bring you something from the ramen shop on the first floor of the station building, that place does a solid shoyu bowl for like 800 yen. way better than trying to bribe nurses who are already running around like crazy

i live near omori and know a few people who've been through that hospital. the food is standard japanese hospital fare - think oyakodon or mackerel with miso soup - it's not bad, just bland and low sodium. you can order extras from the konbini across the street, the 7-Eleven right by omori station has a good selection. honestly, the stress of the procedure will probably kill your appetite anyway, so i wouldn't bother packing much

Hospital food in Japan... it's a mixed bag, let's be honest. I've had surprisingly decent meals in some hospitals, others... not so much. It's usually pretty basic stuff, think boiled vegetables, maybe some fish, rice. Not exactly gourmet, but edible.

Whether you need to pack snacks depends on your tolerance for that kind of thing. If you're picky or have dietary restrictions, definitely bring some stuff you know you'll like. Bribing a nurse with ramen might work... but I wouldn't count on it. They're probably pretty busy. Focus on your procedure; everything else is secondary. Good luck!

I used to go there for exhibitions all the time but I heard it's changed, and I'm wondering if the neighborhood is still worth living in or if it's all just turned into offices now.

yeah the old Whitebox spot got gutted around then, last I walked past it was a startup office on the upper floors. kuramae's decent but honestly Kiyosumi-Shirakawa side is quieter and the rents are still half of Shibuya. miyamasuzaka is basically all towers now.

kuramae's rents crept up too since the tawaman went in, kiyosumi side is still the better bet

whitebox actually closed back in 2018, the space is a gallery-slash-coworking thing now. shibuya's still fine to live in but the rents near miyamasuzaka have jumped hard, more office towers than studios these days. if you want that old creative vibe try kuramae or kiyosumi instead
