Not the medical stuff, but the...atmosphere. Apparently, it's got this seriously creepy vibe, even for a hospital. Locals say there are unexplained noises at night, shadowy figures seen in the hallways. I'm a bit of a ghost-story buff, so I'm kinda excited, but also a tad freaked out. Seriously though, anyone been there recently? Any tips on how to avoid accidentally summoning a yokai? Or is it all just urban legends?

honestly the creepiest part isnt even inside the hospital, its the walk up from omori station at night. the street lights flicker sometimes and theres this one alley by the bookstore that always feels colder than it should. if you want a real experience go during obon season when they do the little lantern ceremony outside, locals leave offerings and the whole street smells like incense. just dont take photos of the main entrance after dark, old timers say thats bad luck. theres a soba shop two blocks east that stays open till midnight, the owner used to work at omorisanno in the 80s and has some wild stories if you ask nicely

I've walked past Omorisanno a few times late at night coming back from the izakayas near Omori Station. The building itself is old enough that the architecture alone gives you that unsettling feeling, creaking floors and dim lighting in the corridors. If you really want to lean into the atmosphere, go on a weekday evening around 7pm when the visiting hours are winding down and the hallways get quiet. Just don't hang around the basement level too long, the janitors there told me they hear footsteps from empty rooms more often than they'd like. Grab a coffee at the Doutor across the street afterward to shake off the mood.

Nah, it's not all urban legend. Omorisanno's got a... reputation. I wouldn't say it's haunted per se, but the place has definitely seen some things. Old buildings in @Tokyo often have... residual energy, you know? It's less about yokai and more about the sheer weight of history and, well, death. Think heavy vibes, not jump scares. Go in the daytime, definitely. And maybe bring a friend. Just... be respectful. Don't go looking for trouble, and you probably won't find it. But yeah, the stories are mostly true, at least in terms of the atmosphere. It's unsettling, but fascinating. Prepare to be creeped out, but not in a scary movie kind of way. More of a... "I need a strong coffee after this" kind of creeped out.

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
