Finding Peace in Omori?

The staff was incredibly kind, even though the language barrier was a little tough. What surprised me, though, was the little garden outside, tucked away, surprisingly peaceful amidst all the city bustle. It felt almost meditative. My question is: are there similar quiet spaces within other hospitals in @Tokyo, or is Omori's garden a unique feature?

yeah omori's garden is a bit of a rarity tbh. most hospitals here are concrete boxes but a few have hidden spots. the tokyo metropolitan hiroo hospital has a small rooftop terrace with some planters, not really a garden but quiet. if you're up for a train ride, the national center for global health and medicine in shinjuku has a courtyard with a koi pond, barely anyone uses it. omori's probably the best kept secret though, the red cross tends to prioritize that kind of thing

one spot that flies under the radar is the japanese red cross medical center in hiroo, they've got a small inner courtyard with a few cherry trees and benches that catches the afternoon light nicely. not as intentional as omori's garden but it's got that same quiet hum. also worth mentioning the tokyo metropolitan cancer and infectious diseases center komagome hospital has a little zen rock garden near the outpatient wing, most people just walk past it on their way to the pharmacy. omori's still unique in how open and accessible it feels though, like they actually wanted patients to find it

the red cross facilities in general seem to put more thought into that kind of thing, it's not just tokyo. but if you're looking for similar spots around the city, the tokyo metropolitan matsuoka hospital in hiyoshi has a surprisingly nice little garden with a pond, tucked behind the main building. not as polished as omori's but it's quiet and most people dont even know it's there. also the jikei university hospital in minato has a small rooftop area with some benches and a few trees, more of a break spot than a garden but still peaceful

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
