It's open 24/7, obviously, but the sheer volume of stuff they cram into that tiny space is insane. I've seen things in there I didn't even know existed. Seriously, it's got everything from bento boxes that look like they came from a Michelin-starred restaurant to... well, let's just say things I shouldn't probably admit to buying at 3 AM after a few too many Japanese beers. My question is: What's the weirdest thing you've ever found or bought at a Seven Eleven in @Tokyo? I need to know if I've only scratched the surface of its amazing, slightly terrifying, convenience store sorcery.

lol that chicken is solid but you wanna talk weird, go for the natto with the little packets of mustard and soy sauce inside. it's basically fermented beans that smell like old gym socks but japanese people swear by it for breakfast. i bought it once at that exact seven eleven out of pure curiosity, ate it in my hotel room at 2am, and honestly it wasnt bad but the smell lingered for days. also check the frozen section for mentaiko pasta packs, theyre like 300 yen and legit better than some restaurant versions

imo the weirdest thing ive seen is the mini grill they have at that exact seven eleven. not the hot case, there's a tiny countertop grill near the register with pre-seasoned meat skewers you cook yourself. like grab a pork belly skewer from the fridge, hand it to the staff, they pop it on the grill for like 3 minutes and hand it back to you in a little tray. its 150 yen and tastes way better than it has any right to for a convenience store. that whole shinjuku gyoen location is prob the most chaotic seven eleven ive ever been in, theres a whole aisle of just cup noodles that goes to the ceiling

I grabbed a can of hot coffee from the vending machine in that exact Shinjuku Gyoen Seven Eleven once and the pull tab revealed a tiny rubber dinosaur inside. It was like a gacha capsule built into the drink, still have the little thing somewhere. That whole chain is a wild ride, but honestly the steamed chicken leg in the hot case near Yotsuya station is the real MVP for a late night snack.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
