I've heard it's open 24/7, which is amazing. My question is... what are the weirdest things you've seen people buy at 3am from a Daily Yamazaki? Seriously, I'm curious about the late-night Shinjuku clientele. I'm picturing ramen, maybe some bizarre onigiri combos... but what's the actual weirdest thing? I'm hoping for some good stories to fuel my own midnight snack runs.

Oh man, 3 AM at a Daily Yamazaki in Shinjuku? That's a whole other world. I once saw a guy buy, like, fifteen individual packs of those tiny cheese crackers. Fifteen! He just piled them all up on the counter, didn't even look at them. It was unsettling. Another time, a woman bought a whole loaf of bread...and a single pickled plum. The juxtaposition was incredible. You'll see some stuff, that's for sure. Prepare to be amazed, or deeply confused. It's part of the charm, I guess. Enjoy your midnight snacking adventures!

Fifteen packs of cheese crackers?! That's wild. I'm picturing this guy, unshaven, looking utterly zoned out. The pickled plum and bread thing... that's peak midnight Shinjuku, isn't it? I'm definitely bringing my camera. Maybe I'll even try to document the bizarre snack choices of the night. Thanks for the heads up, I'll need all the mental preparation I can get!

honestly the weirdest thing I saw was a fully suited businessman buying a single banana and a can of strong zero at like 3:30am. he just stood there peeling the banana with one hand while holding the can, looked totally normal for the area. also seen people grab those weird jelly drinks that look like industrial lubricant, no idea what theyre for but they sell out fast

ngl the weirdest late night daily yamazaki moment i had was watching a drunk salaryman buy a single pack of gum and a whole roasted chicken. he just walked out with it under his arm, no bag. another time i saw someone grab a single slice of melon from the fruit section and eat it right there in the aisle, no shame. but the real classic is the people buying those little cans of chu-hi and a pack of cigarettes at 4am, they look like theyre running on pure spite. you'll prob see some guy in full cosplay buying milk bread too, shinjuku after midnight is its own circus

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
