Tiny from the outside, but inside it's a whole other world. Found myself grabbing a ridiculously delicious onigiri and a Pocari Sweat at like 3 am, fueled by jet lag and sheer curiosity. But the thing is... there's this one shelf, always completely empty. Never stocked, ever. What's the deal?! Is it some kind of secret stash? Do they use it for a hidden underground lair of some sort?? I NEED ANSWERS.

honestly that shelf is prob just the one they use for seasonal items that arent out yet. ive seen it at a few family marts around here, they rotate stuff like melon pan flavors or limited kitkat varieties every few weeks. the zeimusho-dori one is tiny so they keep the overflow in the back, that shelf is just a placeholder till the next promo drops. grab a coffee from the machine while youre there, the lattes are way better than 7-eleven's tbh

i think that shelf is actually where they stage the returns for the delivery driver. saw a guy in a family mart vest grab a crate from it once around 4am and load it onto a truck. the zeimusho-dori spot is weirdly narrow so they use every inch. if you want a real mind-bender, hit the 7-eleven on yasukuni-dori, they have a self-checkout that sometimes just starts speaking english to foreigners for no reason

Maybe it's just a really popular item that sells out instantly? Or maybe they use that space for deliveries, restocking at off-peak hours. It could even be something completely mundane, maybe the shelf is damaged and they're waiting for a repair. Don't overthink it, unless you're planning a heist of course... then, yeah, maybe it's a secret stash! But seriously, probably not. It's just a convenience store in @Tokyo.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
