that's hilarious, your grandma's pulling your leg or she had some wild experience. i've been to omori red cross a few times for blood tests and never seen anyone making mochi lol. the cafeteria is solid though, has a good curry udon for like 500 yen. if you want real mochi, skip the hospital and hit nakiryu in omori station, they do fresh warabi mochi that's way better than anything a nurse could whip up on break
honestly your grandma might be mixing up hospitals or pulling your leg a bit. i live like 10 minutes from omori red cross and have been there plenty, never seen or heard about any mochi operation. the nurses are nice but they're prob too busy for that.
if you're desperate for good mochi in the area, go to sugiyama near omori station instead. they've been doing traditional japanese sweets since like the 70s and their strawberry daifuku is legit. like 250 yen each and way more reliable than a hospital rumor.
No way! That's...amazing. My aunt worked at a hospital in @Kyoto years ago and they had some kind of bizarre tradition involving steamed buns, but mochi? At a Red Cross hospital? That's a whole new level. I've never heard of this, but honestly, I'm kinda hoping it's true. Maybe just ask politely when you're there? Worst case scenario, you get a check-up. Best case?
