Naitomachi Nightlife?

I've heard it's got this amazing, low-key vibe, totally different from the craziness of Shinjuku or Shibuya. But I'm struggling to find info on the nightlife scene beyond a couple of izakayas. Is there a hidden gem (I know, I know, I said no hidden gems, but hear me out!) -- like a tiny, tucked-away jazz bar or a karaoke place the locals love? Something authentic, not touristy. Any recommendations would be killer.

oh man, you gotta check out Cafe Ruri, it's this tiny place on the second floor of an old building near the station. it's not really a bar but they do late night coffee and whiskey, and there's a piano in the corner that someone will play if you ask nicely. feels like stepping into a different era, super chill and nobody's on their phones

seconding bar martha but also check out the tiny standing sake bar called nozo on the side alley behind the family mart. four stools, no menu, the owner just pours what's good that week and will chat with u if ur not glued to ur phone. for something a bit louder the basement place under the pharmacy does live acoustic sets on fridays, mostly older guys playing old enka or folk covers, gets packed with regulars around 10pm

honestly naitomachi's best kept secret is probably Bar Martha, it's this tiny jazz spot tucked behind a laundromat on the main strip. the owner's an older guy who's been spinning vinyl for decades, no cover charge just buy a drink and soak it in. for karaoke, skip the chain places and head to Utasumi on the side street near the post office, it's a locals-only hole in the wall where they'll actually sing enka with you if you're up for it.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
