Lost in Translation at Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building?

The view from the observation deck was incredible, seriously jaw-dropping. But navigating the place itself? A complete nightmare. Signage was almost entirely in Japanese, and even with my translation app, I felt utterly lost. I ended up wandering around for ages just trying to find the restrooms! So, my question is: are there any secret, unofficial maps or guides that locals use to help them navigate that labyrinthine place? It's beautiful, but needs some serious user-friendly improvements.

honestly the trick is that the building has two separate observation decks (north & south) and they connect through a weird hallway near the 45th floor cafe. most tourists only know about the main one. if u go to the south deck first, there's usually way fewer people and a clearer path to the elevators. also the restrooms on 44 are literally hidden behind a fire door that looks employee-only, i found it by accident once

Yeah, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is a beast. The views are amazing, no doubt, but the interior navigation is... less than intuitive. I don't know about secret local maps, but honestly, just using Google Maps (with your location services on) worked surprisingly well for me. It's not perfect, but better than wandering around blindly. Plus, most Japanese people are super helpful, so if you're really lost, just ask someone! They'll probably point you in the right direction. You might even pick up a few Japanese phrases along the way. Good luck next time!

ngl the real trick is just following the streams of salarymen heading to the elevators around 5pm, they all know exactly which bank to take. the building's layout actually mirrors a lot of other government buildings in shinjuku, so once u learn one the rest make more sense. also the restrooms on the 45th floor are usually less crowded than the ones near the main observation deck

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
