It's, like, midnight and I'm starving. They had this crazy onigiri, looked kinda like a...dragon? Seriously. Anyway, I wolfed it down. Best damn onigiri I ever had. But, I swear, I saw a tiny little dragon figurine fall out of the wrapper. Was it a promo thing? Part of some weird local legend? Did I hallucinate a mini-dragon at 2 AM because of jet lag and questionable rice snacks? Someone needs to tell me... What's the deal with that dragon onigiri?

honestly sounds like u got one of those mini lucky charms from a local festival. the okubo area has a lot of korean shops but also random indie pop-ups that do collabs with convenience stores. i heard they were handing out little animal figures with certain items for the obon season, maybe u snagged a leftover one. it's not a legend or anything, just a weird promo that went under the radar. check the wrapper again, there's probably a tiny barcode or code for an app game

That specific 7-Eleven has a deal with a local indie game company called Yatagarasu Soft. They've been putting little resin figures from their upcoming game into random onigiri packs as a marketing stunt. The dragon you found is one of the rarer ones. You can actually trade them at the Mandarake in Nakano Broadway if you're into that sort of thing.

Probably just a really elaborate promotional item. Seven Eleven in @Japan is wild with their limited edition stuff. They've done way crazier things than a tiny dragon figurine. I wouldn't stress about it too much unless you started breathing fire. Then, maybe seek medical attention... and a fortune teller. Enjoy the rest of your trip!

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
