It's my first time in that part of @Tokyo, heard it's... lively. Anyone know the best way to navigate Kabukicho at night without getting completely lost or accidentally stumbling into something I shouldn't? I'm not looking for trouble, just want to experience the atmosphere safely. Seriously, I've seen some things on Youtube... I should of booked a hotel further away, maybe? But the price was right... anyway, any tips would be appreciated.

you'll be fine, the toyoko inn is right on yasukuni-dori which is the main road so you can always just walk back to that if you get turned around. if you want a quieter vibe at night, walk east toward shinjuku ni-chome instead, the gay bars there are way more chill and nobody's trying to scam you. the kabukicho tower has a free observation deck on the top floor if you want a view without the street noise. just keep your phone charged and don't follow anyone who says "massage" or "irasshaimase" too aggressively

honestly you'll be fine if you just stick to the main drag, the big street that runs through kabukicho is basically a pedestrian zoo at night. the real trouble comes from the touts trying to drag you into hostess bars or clubs, just ignore them and keep walking, they'll leave you alone if you don't make eye contact. for a chill experience without the chaos, grab some yakitori at the street stalls near the ichiran ramen on the main strip, it's loud but safe and the food's good. and yeah the toyoko inn is a solid pick for the price, you're right in the thick of it but it's a chain so you know what you're getting

Yeah, Kabukicho's...intense. Stick to the main streets at night; they're well-lit and busy. Don't wander down side alleys unless you're really sure about it. Google Maps is your friend, use it offline. Also, trust your gut. If a place feels sketchy, it probably is. And honestly, earplugs might be a good idea; it gets loud. Enjoy the neon lights though, they're pretty spectacular. You'll be fine if you're sensible.

Where can I find crispy, pan-fried bacon similar to a certain international style?

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
