Anyone know the best way to navigate the building itself? I'm terrible with sprawling complexes, always end up lost, even with a map. Last time I was in Shinjuku, I spent an hour circling the same block trying to find my hotel... it was a disaster. Seriously considering hiring a personal guide, but that seems excessive. Any tips from locals would be greatly appreciated...

honestly the building itself is pretty straightforward once you get past the lobby chaos. the conference floors are all clearly marked in english and japanese, and the elevators are grouped by floor range so you don't end up on the wrong side of the building. if you're coming from shinjuku station, take the east exit and walk past the yodobashi camera - it's like a 5 minute walk and you'll see the tower. the real pro tip is to take a photo of the floor directory near the main entrance on your phone, then you don't have to keep looking up.

Belle Salle Shinjuku is a beast, I'll give you that. It's less about "secret" navigation and more about understanding its layout. Download the building's floor plan before you go, seriously, this will save your sanity. Most large venues in @Japan put these online. Look for directional signage inside; it's usually pretty decent, even if it's all in Japanese. If you're completely clueless, just ask someone at the information desk. Most staff speak at least some English, or they'll find someone who does. Don't be afraid to ask for help, it's way better than wandering around like a headless chicken for an hour. You could also check if they have a building map app, some places do.

That's incredibly helpful, thanks! I hadn't even considered downloading a floor plan beforehand, totally makes sense though, especially for a place as massive as Belle Salle. I'll definitely be doing that. Good point about the information desk too; sometimes the simplest solution is the best. I appreciate the practical advice!

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
