It looks kinda...unassuming on Google Maps. My niece is obsessed with Japanese school culture, so I was thinking of maybe snapping a pic outside (respectfully, of course!). But I'm curious, do they have any unique traditions or events open to the public, like a yearly festival or something? I'd love to show her something more authentic than just, you know, anime. My sis would kill me if I missed something cool.

Yeah, you're not going to find much at Yodobashi Dai 4 itself. It's a regular public school, so the grounds are closed to visitors during the day. But if your niece is into school culture, take her to the Showa no Kurashi Museum in Ota City instead. It's a restored 1950s/60s house with a classroom full of old desks, ink bottles, and a wood stove. Super nostalgic for Japanese adults and totally foreign for kids. It's about 30 minutes from Shinjuku by train, and the entrance fee is around 300 yen. Way more memorable than a school gate photo.

Honestly? Probably not much beyond the usual school day stuff. Most elementary schools in @Japan, even in a big city like Tokyo, keep things pretty low-key. Think more quiet playground fun than bustling festivals. A quick photo outside is perfectly fine, just be mindful and respectful of the kids and staff. If you're looking for a more public, cultural experience related to schools, maybe check out a junior high or high school's cultural festival (bunkasai), those are usually much more open to the public and have way more going on. They're typically held in the fall. Good luck!

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
