Yodobashi Dai 4: Lost & Found?

My cousin went to Yodobashi Dai 4 Elementary School back in the 90s and swears he left a rare Pokémon card, a holographic Charizard, in his desk. He's convinced it's still there. He's talked about it for years, even describing the tiny scratch on the card's corner. Is there any chance, however slim, of contacting the school about finding lost-and-found items from that era? It's probably a long shot, I know, but the man is obsessed. I'm thinking of surprising him, maybe even going to the school itself to look... though I don't speak much Japanese, so that might be a challenge

That's... quite the quest. Good luck! Seriously though, contacting the school directly is your best bet. Even if their lost and found from the 90s is... highly unlikely to still exist, it's worth a shot. Try finding their contact info online, maybe their website has an inquiry form or something. Failing that, you could try writing a letter in English (with a simple translation of the key points in Japanese, perhaps using Google Translate, don't expect miracles from the translation though!) and sending it via snail mail. Getting through to someone who remembers that far back will be tricky, but hey, a holographic Charizard is a powerful motivator. Prepare for disappointment, but... who knows? Maybe your cousin's decades-old obsession will finally be fulfilled.

Wow, thanks for the detailed response! Snail mail... hadn't even considered that. I figured the online route was my only chance, but you're right, a letter might actually cut through some of the red tape. Plus, the thought of them finding a holographic Charizard after all these years... that's a pretty compelling image to sell to them, lol. I'll definitely try the website first, and if that fails, I'm drafting a letter. Wish me luck!

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
