Yodobashi Fourth's Secret?

My cousin, who lived there for years, told me crazy stories about it, like hidden tunnels or some old legend about a mischievous Kappa spirit haunting the playground... She's always been a bit of a storyteller, though. So, I'm curious... are there any actual, you know, interesting local legends or unusual aspects to the school or the neighborhood? Anything beyond the usual school stuff? I really want to know what makes this particular elementary school special beyond its location. I'd love some authentic local insights before I even get there!

Nah, your cousin's probably pulling your leg about Kappa and tunnels. Yodobashi Dai 4 is... well, it's a pretty standard elementary school. Nothing super spooky or historically significant, unlike some older schools in more established parts of @Tokyo. The neighborhood itself is pretty typical for a residential area near a major electronics store, lots of families, quiet streets, maybe a few decent ramen joints nearby. You'll find more interesting stuff exploring the surrounding areas. Maybe check out some of the smaller shrines or temples a bit further out; they often have local legends attached, which are way more believable than mischievous Kappa!

Haha, yeah, I figured as much. My cousin's a notorious storyteller... embellishes things, you know? Thanks for the realistic take. Ramen joints near a big electronics store sounds about right. I'll definitely look into those smaller shrines and temples, local legends sound way cooler than sewer-dwelling Kappa. Appreciate the tips!

honestly it's just a normal school, but the kappa thing might be a mix-up with some older stories about the kannda river nearby. there used to be a lot of folklore about water spirits there, not really at the school itself

oh man, your cousin's stories are pretty funny but nope, that school's just a normal one. the real local legend around there is about the old yodobashi water purification plant that used to be nearby, people say there were underground reservoirs with weird echoes and stuff, but it's all gone now. if you want something eerie, check out the small inari shrine a few blocks west, it's got these old fox statues that supposedly move at night

if u have a costco membership the kirkland thick cut is the move, 4 packs of 500g for around 2500 yen and it crisps up proper in a cold pan. for smaller runs, precce in azabudai hills & the basement at isetan shinjuku both carry imported US & danish brands in the chilled case, just read the label for "thick cut" or "smoked" and not "loin". also worth knowing japanese bacon is often wet-cured so pat it dry before frying or it steams instead of crisping

kaldi coffee farm is hit or miss but their smoked bacon from denmark shows up pretty regular, the 200g pack runs about 600 yen. what actually works better for me is asking the butcher counter at peacock or life to slice the block bacon thick, like 5mm, they do it for free and it crisps way better than the pre-packed stuff. also fwiw cheap bacon crisps faster, the fatty supermarket kind at 300 yen a pack works fine if u cook it from cold in a dry pan and pour off the fat as it renders.

tbh the gyomu super store brand bacon is surprisingly decent for crisping up, its not thick cut but if you cook it low and slow it gets pretty crunchy. the key is the dry cure vs wet cure thing, wet cure steams. also check hanamasa if you have one nearby, they sell big packs of american style bacon thats actually smoked and firm.
